Street Outreach

Reaching out to people experiencing homelessness

Setting off for an outreach round.

Sadibou, DoucheFLUX's street outreach coordinator, will be delighted to welcome you to the team!

Through our social street outreach, our aim is to meet people experiencing homelessness in public spaces across Brussels. The DoucheFLUX team provides information about the services offered by the day centre and the wider network, distributes essential hygiene supplies, and builds a caring, non-judgemental connection with the people they meet.

The street outreach team is directly connected to the psycho-medico-social services of the DoucheFLUX day centre and takes a care-based and outreach approach.

We are looking for regular volunteers to join us in carrying out street outreach from our day centre. Initial training and supervision with the street outreach coordinator are provided. All outreach rounds are carried out in pairs or groups of three, for greater companionship and peace of mind.

Infos

  • 2 to 3 hour outreach rounds, with a debriefing at the end or a briefing at the beginning of the round.
  • Tuesdays, Thursdays and Friday mornings between 9:00 a.m. & 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. & 3:00 p.m

Making culture more accessible on the streets

On the streets, volunteer teams use the Travelling Media Library project (formerly Street&Read) to offer free access to culture, reading and information to people who wish to take part.

Following in the footsteps of the non-profit organisations Bulle and Rolling Douche, outreach sessions are organised on Mondays at Place Flagey and on Fridays at Brussels-Midi Station, on the Esplanade de l'Europe.
Volunteers invite people who are waiting to do their laundry or take a shower to enjoy a simple, friendly conversation over a book or a cup of coffee.

The Travelling Media Library works in partnership with the Maison du Livre de Saint-Gilles, which can offer our audience activities related to writing and reading. The aim of this project is to move beyond emergency support and a purely charitable approach, and to make genuine encounters between people using our services and volunteers possible.

  • Monday: Place Flagey from 01:00 > 05:00 pm
